Alison Krauss and John Waite – Missing You
May 20, 2015 10:00 amI should probably admit that I didn’t like this song when it originally came out. It was 1984, and I was about as far out of the target demographic as you could get. Sure, I had a weakness for songs of longing, but this one just didn’t deliver the goods for me.
Years later, I moved to the Midwest and became acquainted with Alison Krauss’s music. Soon, I learned to just buy every album she released without question. It was on “A Hundred Miles or More” that I heard a song that stopped me dead in my tracks. I almost felt the crosshairs on my forehead as I realized I had found myself directly in the target demographic of the song I never cared for.
I don’t know if it’s that I have grown older and more experienced, or if Allison Krauss brought the missing ingredient required to set the hook, but I was on the line. In digging around for information on the original song, I found out that it is mostly verified that the song was written for original MTV VJ Nina Blackwood. Okay, maybe I am starting to like the original version now.
I didn’t hurt that Rocky Schenck did a great job putting together a video in a world class studio. We will be featuring another one of Rocky’s videos soon, Luna’s “Slash your Tires.”
For those of you who might not remember the first incarnation of the song, you can see it here:
