Joy Electric – Monosynth
June 23, 2015 10:00 amI have to admit, I am a late adopter of Joy Electric and all of the other side projects. I have been a huge electronic music dork for the past 40 years or so, but it seems like every single day, it’s possible to find a great (and prolific) artist that I had never heard of. This was the case with Joy Electric.
Among the oddities of this artists is that he lives just a few streets over from me. Both of us are California expats, so we have a similar musical background.
I have steered away from electronic music on this list, as my tastes usually fall to the extremes of the genre, and I don’t want to scare anyone away. I think Joy electric brings something to the table that anyone remotely interested should be able to easily grasp. These are solidly written songs that don’t rely on the genre to be interesting. They are fully fleshed out and interesting, and happen to be synth centric.
Joy Electric have developed a very unique sound, and once you become familiar with it, tune around SomaFM, and you will find they have penetrated the station.
Enjoy.
