Saskwatch – Don’t Wanna Try

Saskwatch - Leave it All BehindI found this band while looking for something else on the internet. It was probably the Sasquatch I was looking for, but I found something much better. This is the band from Australia that I have been cooking up a massive plan for a very long time.

I have a sister in law who was in a Motown group in the 60’s called “Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.”  In a podcast I co-hosted, we had the pleasure of interviewing Annette. One of the things that stood out was that she, and so many other Motown legends had a real hunger to perform once again. If you want to chase that rabbit down the hole, you can hear the interview in its entirety at the bottom of this post.

Well, of course it would be awesome to have all these historically significant artists come out and play their hits for second, third, and fourth generations. I have in mind something much better.

I have a friend who runs an all analog studio in Nashville called “Welcome to 1979.” Furthermore, I have several friends who are veteran songwriters and producers. It seems a natural fit to find a half dozen great young bands who understand the classic sound (oh, yes, I do have the entire list at hand) and pair them up with these Motown legends to produce a set of EPs that blend a modern take on a classic sound with some classic Motown chops.

The only thing standing in the way? Money, of course. Something tells me that if I could speak to Berry Gordy for ten minutes,  we might find a way around that.

For those of you unfamiliar with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, here’s a little something to wet your whistle. After that, check out the interview below, if you’re into that kinda thing:
