The Icicles – La Ti Da
May 26, 2015 10:00 amI first heard of The Icicles many years ago from a random sampler I received in the mail. While the sampler was full of great Midwest Pop, one band’s sound was clearly ahead of the pack. I bought everything they released as soon as it was released.
At one point, I contacted the band to find out if “Ralphy Rodgriguez” was a Menudo reference, and yes, it was. The groundwork was set, and this band made it into my DNA.
It was as if they were the secret record in my collection. A record that only a few people knew about. Many years later, I heard this song on a Target commercial, and was part happy for them, and part violated, as if someone was going through my record collection while I was not home. I have come to terms with this, and now I am just happy for them.
If you dig this song, make sure to make it over to their site, as they have an Indigogo project for the recording of a new album. I will be putting some money down this week.
