The Rolling Stones – Tops

his is a really tough call. Just about any Rolling Stones song can be placed in the category of “you should know this song.” I will probably
feature one again at some point in the future, but I chose this one because it fits in with yesterday’s track.
A bit of background first.
I used to drive the coolest 1967 red Volkswagen bug. I lived in Southern California. I lived in a place called Oxnard Shores. I had a full time day job, and since I needed no sleep, most of my nights were spent exploring the Gold Coast. For some reason, the drive home each night seemed to fit perfectly with side 2 of The Rolling Stones “Tattoo You.” Before I would point my bug home, I would wait the 120 seconds or so to let the tape rewind all the way.
Years later, in a Veronica Mars episode, Veronica made reference to a perpetrator’s predilection for playing side 2 of “Tattoo You” before kidnapping and violating some poor kid. My love for the album was enough to persevere such a veiled accusation.
Years after that, in a once again brilliant move by music supervisor, Tracy McKnight, I was redeemed when this track was used in the Lisa P scene of Adventureland.
